Gaddafi Planned to Assassinate Morocco king Hassan II

Hassan II and Hosni Mubarak have been the target of an attack sponsored by Muammar Gaddafi.

It is a more or less surprising story that is revealed by Atif Abu Bakr, a former head of the Political Department of the Palestinian movement Fatah-Revolutionary Council, in Al Arabiya channel. In 1987, the former head of Libyan state Muammar Gaddafi allegedly planned with the help of Sabri Al Banna, Palestinian fighter known as “Abu Nidal” for the assassination of King Hassan II.

As part of the program “Political Memories” of Al Arabiya, the former Palestinian leader returns to the reign of Muammar Gaddafi and reveals unpublished facts. At the height of tensions between Morocco and Libya, weapons were sent to Morocco by Libya to assassinate Hassan II. The planning was meticulous to the point where it was agreed to carry out the assassination, during the passage of the sovereign by his daily commute, next to the Hilton hotel in Rabat. Bombs and weapons were registered at that time in the Hilton forest to serve for an ambush during the passage of the royal train. Collaboration would also have been considered with a part of the Moroccan opposition at the time.

The plan was eventually canceled for fear of possible retaliation from Morocco, as was the case with Egypt. Hosni Mubarak had also been the target of an assassination plot in 1989, during the African summit in Ethiopia.
