Morocco Hosts conference of Moroccan-American Initiative on “Border Security”

El Jadida – The inaugural conference of the Moroccan-American Initiative on “Border Security”, organized in collaboration with the Global Counter Terrorism Forum (Global Forum for fight against terrorism) (GCTF ) and the United Nations Centre against Terrorism (CTC) opened Tuesday in El Jadida, with the participation of more than thirty countries.

This event aims to be a platform to exchange, discuss and analyze gaps relating to terrorism and border security, but also to share good practices of the border management cooperative.

It also aims to define the framework of this initiative, provide government officials, representatives of international organizations and other experts the opportunity to exchange ideas and build lasting professional networks.

The program for this major event, which runs until July 22 current, include several themes including “Gaps in capacities and needs of national security and border management systems,” “Methods for ban movement of terrorists and transnational criminals, organized through the porous borders, while applying national law in harmony with international conventions and respect for sovereignty. ”

“The strengthening of border cooperation and information exchange between local communities, neighboring states and the associated regions” and “Methods to increase the monitoring standards of green and blue borders, based on lessons learned and best practices developed in order to reduce the uncontrolled movement of unauthorized persons “are also among the topics to be addressed at this important international meeting.

The program also includes a series of workshops focusing in particular on the Sahel and the Horn of Africa.

A recall as help to develop effective responses and support national cooperation on securing the porous borders, the Executive Directorate Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTED) with UNCCT and the Government of Morocco had co -Organized in 2013 in Rabat a conference on cooperation in border control in the Sahel and the Maghreb.

The aim is to highlight the importance of cooperation between the different agencies involved in border control, monitoring and coordination of activities at national, regional and interregional levels, and to promote dialogue and exchange of views could help identify problems and common solutions.
