Understanding Memorandum for the Implementation of Morocco-OECD Country Program Signed In Paris

Paris – A memorandum of understanding for the implementation of the Morocco-OECD country program was signed on Monday in Paris by the Head of Government Abdelilah Benkirane and the Secretary General of the Organization, Angel Gurra.

To strengthen and deepen cooperation between the two parties, this program will cover several components, including investment, trade and globalization, public governance, territorial development, taxation, education, social inclusion and employment, and tourism.

It aims to promote adherence to OECD instruments and the effective implementation of standards and best practices of the Organization, and to advance Morocco’s reforms in various policy areas.

Under this program, the two sides will cooperate in various fields including joint studies, Morocco’s national policy examinations, information exchange and sharing of statistical data and other relevant information that can provide a basis for better analyzes of both parties.

Both parties also undertake to organize events, seminars and joint workshops, participate in events and activities with a regional scope and promote the participation of Morocco in the organs and OECD projects.

The program, with a duration of two years renewable, further facilitate the accession of the Kingdom in various legal instruments of the OECD, in addition to monitoring, assessment and comparative analysis of political practices of Morocco against the standards and best practices of the Organization to promote the reform and government transparency vis-à-vis citizens.

The country program includes 17 public policy reviews, adherence to legal instruments 9 of the OECD and increasing participation in 9 Organization committees. It is built around three main themes: economic growth and competitiveness, social inclusion and public governance.

The proposed set of activities will enable Morocco to have information and key recommendations to develop and strengthen its plan economic and social reforms during the next two years to support strong, sustainable and inclusive.

A recall that Morocco is the only African country in the MENA region held by the OECD to benefit from this program.
