Morocco Elected President of Francophonie Economic and Social Councils

Rabat – The President of the Economic, Social and Environmental council (EESC), Nizar Baraka, was elected president of the Union of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions of member states and governments of La Francophonie ( UCESIF).

Baraka was elected president of the UCESIF for a term of two years and, during the General Assembly of the Union held Thursday in Rabat and devoted to the renewal of its bodies and of his presidency.

The President of the ESC of Romania, Florian Costache was elected first vice president. Other members of the new office of the UCESIF are Guinea, Niger and Greece.

On this occasion, the new president of the UCESIF outlined the main points of the roadmap of its mandate, namely the continuation of the extension process of social charter UCESIF and the development of a common platform climate for the voice of UCESIF during the next two COP to be held respectively in France and Morocco.

The roadmap also includes the launch of a reflection on the middle class in countries of the Francophonie and advocacy for the generalization of universal social protection floor.

This meeting was also marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Union of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions of Africa (UCESA) and UCESIF to unite their wills and resources to conduct actions common in the priority areas in the fight against climate change, support for the establishment of bases of universal social protection and promotion of family farming in favor of a larger role in economic and social development of countries members.

This meeting saw the participation of about fifty senior representatives of the Francophone world institutions from seventeen countries and the admission of two new members: ESCs of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the State Council the Republic of Armenia.

Founded in 2004 in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), the UCESIF is one of five Francophone institutional networks which under the aegis of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF), aims to consolidate the institutions of similar skill Francophone countries, to create a space for exchanging experiences in the same field of activities. It now has 21 members united by shared language and common values.
