Joint communiqué issued at the end of the visit of HM King to Senegal
Dakar – HM King Mohammed VI has made a friendly and working visit from 20 to 28 May to Senegal at the invitation of President of Senegal Mr. Macky Sall, who was sanctioned by a joint statement which is the following :
“At the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, paid a friendship and work visit to Senegal, from 20 to 28 May 2015. This visit is a continuation of the traditional relations of fraternal and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
During this visit, the two Heads of State expressed satisfaction of the singular strategic partnership between Morocco and Senegal, the density of the relationship and its pioneering nature in many sectors, which make it a model of cooperation in Africa.
This visit was an opportunity to strengthen and expand the legal framework governing relations between the two countries with the signing of twenty-eight (28) cooperation agreements covering strategic areas of economic and social life.
It helped, too, the establishment of the Economic Pulse Group, as a new mechanism for such monitoring and the strengthening of the economic partnership between Morocco and Senegal.
The promotion of human development was at the heart of the Royal Visit. His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Macky Sall chaired the inauguration ceremonies and launch of several human development projects in Senegal with the support of Morocco.
This is, in particular, the granting of a large donation of medicines and medical devices, the launch of the construction works of a fishing pier at Soumbédioune and commissioning of rural electrification network Massar and villages Teugue SECK Yamane, located in the Louga region.
These projects reflect the innovative and pragmatic vision of two Heads of State for the stability and development of the African continent based on South-South cooperation, solidarity and active.
His Excellency President Macky Sall welcomed the plea of His Majesty the King in favor of “uninhibited Africa” that faces its challenges and support its future.
It welcomed on this occasion, commitment of Morocco to support Senegal in implementing the Plan Senegal Emergent and to share its experience and expertise in the areas of economic and social development.
His Majesty King Mohammed VI highlighted the sustained efforts of President Macky Sall for socio-economic development of Senegal.
His Majesty the King also praised the role played by Senegal as a regional player in promoting peace and stability and its efforts to strengthen economic integration and sub-regional African.
In this regard, His Majesty welcomed the election of President Sall as President of ECOWAS.
His Majesty the King also welcomed the nomination of Senegal to the United Nations Security Council for the 2016-2017 period and assured President Macky Sall of Morocco’s unconditional support for the said application.
The two Heads of State noted that Africa is now at a crucial time in its history, marked by both major challenges and enormous opportunities, in its quest for prosperity.
In this context, they stressed the importance of the consolidation and the emergence of sub-regional geopolitical spaces, based on economic integration, political consultation and coordination security challenges.
In this regard, the two Heads of State decided to promote the creation of an area of sub-regional strategic dialogue and cooperation bringing together the countries in this region.
Convinced that economic development and regional integration are an appropriate response to the security challenges and instability, the two Heads of State agreed to work towards the early conclusion of an economic partnership agreement between Morocco and the ECOWAS.
Moreover, the two Heads of State stressed the paramount importance of safeguarding peace and security in the Sahel-Saharan zone.
They have in this regard reiterated their determination to work together with the international community to eradicate terrorism and violent extremism in the region. They decided to enhance cooperation in the field of religion to promote moderate and tolerant Islam that Morocco and Senegal share.
Regarding Mali, the two Heads of State noted the latest developments intervened and stressed the importance of achieving inclusive and sustainable solution, with respect for national unity and territorial integrity of Mali.
Concerning the Sahara issue, President Macky Sall recalled the constant support, steadfast and unwavering Senegal, to the Moroccan Sahara and the territorial integrity of Morocco.
At the end of his friendship and working visit to the Republic of Senegal, His Majesty King Mohammed VI expressed his deep appreciation to His Excellency Mr. Macky Sall and people of Senegal for the spontaneous, warm and brotherly as well as generous hospitality, which were booked him. ”
