Morocco King and Senegal President Inaugurated Rural Electrification

Louga (north of Senegal) – His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Senegalese President Macky Sall, inaugurated Saturday the electricity network connection to the villages of Massar Teugue and Yamane Seck, located in the Sakal rural commune in the Department of Louga (North Senegal).

In an address to HM the King and the President of Senegal, the DG ONEE said the connection is part of rural electrification concessions awarded to ONEE, noting that this allocation, the result of an international bidding process conducted with professionalism and rigor by the competent Senegalese authorities, is a new illustration of the capacity of African firms to meet the challenges of development.

The Global Rural Electrification Program has allowed Morocco, in the space of fifteen years, to generalize access to electricity throughout the territory of the Kingdom thus contributing, within the framework of the National Initiative Human Development launched by HM King Mohammed VI, with the notable improvement in the living conditions of rural citizens, he has said.

Through these two concessions, Morocco is shared with Senegal of its rich experience in rural electrification, with the aim of contributing to the realization of its ambitious rural electrification program, said Mr. Fassi Fihri, welcoming the financial partners who supported the project, including the World Bank, the African Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank.

The inauguration of this project illustrates the relevance and fecundity of the choice of south-south cooperation model advocated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Senegalese head of state, in an essential area for socio-economic development of Africa .

HM King Mohammed VI and Senegalese head of state have subsequently proceeded to the symbolic handover of power subscription contracts for six (6) beneficiaries in villages and Massar Teugue Yamane Seck.

The two heads of state then proceeded to the commissioning of the electrification of two adjoining villages through two push buttons on panel.

The connecting project in Senegalese national grid, villages and Massar Teugue Yamane Seck was part of two rural electrification concessions awarded to ONEE by the Senegalese State following two international tenders.

The project that benefits 87 homes, a number of 400 households, and also provide electrical power to three mosques, two schools and a health center, mobilized a budget of 30 million CFA Francs.
