Morocco is strengthening its prevention strategy against Ebola

In accordance with the royal instructions, the nationwide prevention and control mechanism of Ebola will be strengthened.

Faced with the alarming reactivation of Ebola in Guinea, King Mohammed VI instructed the Minister of Health to strengthen national strategy of vigilance against this disease. Houcine El Ouardi therefore convened on Monday in Rabat an enlarged meeting with several departments where new measures were adopted to better prevent and control this deadly virus. They will be effective from today in all hospitals of the country as well as in all border crossings.

This new system, based on 7 points, was unveiled before an audience composed of particularly Interior Minister Mohamed Assad, General Hosni Benslimane, Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie and coordinator of the National Commission of prevention, Director of National Security, Bouchaïb Rmeil and Professor Maaroufi Abderrahmane, doctor of epidemiology.

As a reminder, the national plan against Ebola is operational in Morocco since March 2014. And during that period, 29 cases suspected of being infected with Ebola virus have all been healthy. “Between 2014 and 2015, the Kingdom has welcomed over 103,000 travelers from countries affected by the epidemic. But no proven cases of Ebola have been recorded,” said Minister of Health.
