Anti-terrorism: Morocco reiterates in Washington need for a holistic approach

Washington – Morocco has reiterated on Thursday in Washington, the need for a holistic approach based on the security triptych, sustainable development and safeguarding of cultural and religious values ​​to combat terrorism.

“Morocco remains convinced that peace, security and sustainable stability are dependent on security triptych, sustainable development and safeguarding of cultural and religious values ​​to fight terrorism,” said the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mbarka Bouaida.

Ms. Bouaida speaking at the meeting devoted to the debate on “the contribution of moderate religious voices and education” in the top of the White House fight against violent extremism (Washington, 18-20 February).

“The approaches based on the security and military, despite their importance, are insufficient to ensure successful treatment of complex dimensions of the phenomenon of terrorism from radicalization,” she argued.

Indeed, continued the minister, “alongside these aspects, it is imperative to implement a preventive strategy at political and sociological, as well as cultural and religious levels.”

“This is, insisted Ms. Bouaida, support political stability and security governance and the ability of states to preserve their national integrity and sovereignty,” explaining that stability is also linked to the fight against poverty , insecurity and marginalization.

Morocco is convinced that the challenge of socio-economic development is “the Gordian knot of any strategy against violent extremism and terrorism”, said the minister.

It is therefore imperative for the international community to bring together the necessary resources able to support developing countries in their ongoing efforts to address this challenge through solidarity solutions to poverty, injustice and marginalization for a Safer World, more just and human, she added.

“Recognizing the critical importance of these principles, the Kingdom work in building a distinguished development model based on the civilizational values ​​of the Moroccan people, its national specificity and interactivity with universal values,” said Ms. Bouaida , who chaired the Moroccan delegation to the summit.

From its historical legacy, religious and cultural, she explained, Morocco has enshrined in its constitution the positive and harmonious interaction between the values ​​of openness, moderation, tolerance and dialogue, as well as mutual understanding between cultures and civilizations.

The minister, in this context, emphasized the centrality of the role of the institution of the Commandery of believers in religious field management, adding that Morocco continues the implementation of a number of measures to strengthen the legal framework by allocating the necessary funds to ensure the religious services to citizens far from any ideological ends.

In her speech, she also mentioned among the measures inclusive sustainable development, NHRIs and the contribution of this initiative to address the social challenges of marginalization and insecurity. Such a company, she noted, was accompanied by assertive efforts dedicated to the development of an education system ensuring fair access to school, university and knowledge in general.
