Riyadh- The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani condemned Saturday the “horrible and senseless” murder of three young Muslims in Chapel Hill, NC North.
“This brutal crime shocked Muslims around the world and raised legitimate concern over the rise of anti-Muslim sentiments and the resurgence of Islamophobic acts in the United States of America,” said a statement from the OIC, urging the US government to “take steps to ensure the protection required against stereotypes and discrimination, which are incompatible with the core values of American society.”
Madani, who stressed that “hatred and intolerance should have no place in a multicultural world”, praised the unity of the American Muslim community and acts of solidarity of the American people with the families of the victims.
He further called for increased international cooperation in the fight against extremism, intolerance, hate speech and hate crimes.
