Two soldiers killed in an attack in the center of Mali

At least two Malian soldiers were killed Friday in an attack in Ténenkou in the center of the country, according to several sources.

“At least two Malian soldiers were killed Friday in Ténenkou during the attack of the city by armed elements,” said a municipal source, quoted by the media, information confirmed by local residents who say the attackers “infiltrated” since Wednesday evening in the city.

” In a statement, the UN Integrated Mission for the stabilization of Mali (MINUSMA) condemned in the strongest terms this attack this morning on the town of Tenenkou, Mopti region by armed elements who belong to groups terrorists.

While presenting his condolences to the Malian armed forces, government and people of Mali and the families of soldiers who lost their lives in this cowardly and dastardly attack, MINUSMA monitor the situation in close cooperation with Malian security forces and the French Force barkhane.

The UN force said it will take appropriate measures to support regional and local authorities to deal with it, as part of its mandate to protect the population.

Last week, jihadist groups had tried unsuccessfully to attack Ténenkou but had managed to hit other parts of the region, killing at least 11 Malian soldiers during an attack on a garrison at Nampala.

Northern Mali in 2012 fell under the control of jihadist groups that have been driven largely by international military operation conducted by France.
