Rabat – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Touizi, held on Monday in Rabat a meeting with a delegation from the American Jewish Committee (AJC), led by the committee’s Chief Policy and Political Affairs Officer, Jason F. Isaacson.
During this meeting, Touizi welcomed the depth of the historic ties of friendship between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America, underlining the importance of further bolstering bilateral cooperation, including in the parliamentary field, the House of Representatives said in a press release.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to underline the need of elevating the level of economic and trade exchanges and to establish promising partnerships, especially as Morocco has a strategic position as a gateway to the African continent.
Touizi also praised the position of the United States of America in support of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and its sovereignty over its entire territory.
The Lower House Speaker also highlighted that the Kingdom of Morocco, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, is a model of coexistence and religious and cultural pluralism, recalling that the Kingdom’s Constitution enshrines the unity of the rich Moroccan identity with its multiple tributaries, namely the Hebrew one, adding that Moroccan Jews have throughout history formed a core component of this identity.
Touizi also noted that the American delegation’s visit coincides with the onset of the 12th Legislative Term, and the vote on the Government Program presented by the Head of Government before the two Houses of Parliament.
In this sense, he recalled the appointment by HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, of Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as Head of Government is a historical precedent in the Kingdom, being the first woman to occupy such a position, which reflects the high regard HM the King has always had for Moroccan women and his constant diligence to enhance their conditions.
For their part, the AJC delegation reiterated their firm support to the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and praised the solid historic partnership and friendship the Kingdom entertains with the United States of America. They also expressed their engagement in the initiatives aimed at advancing the bilateral ties between the two countries.
The members of the delegation also noted that the Kingdom of Morocco is a unique model of coexistence and tolerance, praising its role in enhancing peace and security at the regional and international levels and commending the development momentum the Kingdom is witnessing.
Founded in 1906, the American Jewish Committee (AJC) is an international platform for dialogue and reflection. It defends civic and religious rights and works to enshrine the values of tolerance and combat all forms of hatred.
