Joseph Blatter Resigned from FIFA presidency

Zurich – The Swiss Joseph Blatter, 79, announced his resignation from the presidency of the International Football Federation (FIFA), in a time of an unprecedented corruption scandal.

Blatter, head of FIFA since 1998, puts an end to his functions as head of the governing body of world football four days after his re-election for a fifth term at the end of an eventful conference.

During a press conference in Zurich afternoon, he said convening an extraordinary congress to be held “very soon” to elect a new president and assured that he would not stand.

Aged 79 years, Sepp Blatter began his long career in 1975 within the international federation and became president in 1998.
