Two influential Moroccan ministers for regulating abortion

Policies are invited in the controversy over the “legalization” or at least “regulation” of abortion in Morocco. If the opposition parties, whether left, conservative or hybrid, avoid for the time of entering into the controversy, voices within the government majority do not hesitate to broach the subject.

Monday at the stand of the National Council of Human Rights in Casablanca Book Fair, Mohand Laenser, Secretary General of the Popular Movement and Minister for Urban Development, was the surprise by voting for the “regulation” of voluntary interruption of pregnancy. The man at the head of a traditional Amazigh called for these operations are performed in daylight and not underground, to preserve the health of women.

Laenser called for the opening of a national debate on this issue in order to prevent women from contracting dangerous diseases or worse, die from severe bleeding. He also insisted that his position should not be interpreted as defilement in Moroccan society.
