The Bill of nuclear safety and radiological security and the creation of agency to ensure their control was presented Monday by Abdelkader Amara, Minister of Energy, mine, water and the environment. The text in question should allow for better control of radioactive products as well as their uses.
By adopting this text, Morocco will provide a legal arsenal on a very sensitive area where the blur wins. At the end of this bill, and to start, Morocco should make an inventory of its radioactive sources. An evaluation of the nuclear threat system should also be established, in addition to monitoring the ionizing mineral extraction, use and transportation. Even the medical use of ionizing radiation for therapeutic purposes will be subject to regulation.
The bill provides penalties for infringements of the provisions of this law. Therefore, a “safety Agency of nuclear and radiological security” structure will be created. It is a public institution with legal personality and financial autonomy.
The agency will be under the supervision of the State and will be responsible for enforcing, through its competent bodies, the provisions of this Act, in particular those relating to the tasks assigned to it and to ensure the application of the law.
