Stellantis Morocco Transforms the Electric Fiat Tris into a Mobile Café with Afrikawa

Stellantis Morocco is exploring new uses for the Fiat Tris, its electric cargo tricycle designed and assembled in the Kingdom. In partnership with the Moroccan company Smiresso, the manufacturer has developed Afrikawa, a mobile café concept that combines an electric vehicle, professional equipment, and photovoltaic panels. This initiative could open up new markets for Fiat’s small utility vehicle.
The Fiat Tris isn’t just for transporting goods. Stellantis Morocco has just unveiled an original version, capable of housing a fully equipped coffee preparation and sales station. Named “Afrikawa,” this project was developed with Smiresso, a Moroccan company specializing in the coffee sector. Presented on October 14th, this prototype showcases the possibilities offered by the Fiat Tris platform. Designed and assembled in Morocco, the 100% electric utility vehicle has an architecture that allows its rear section to be adapted for various professional uses. For Afrikawa, Stellantis chose to install a workspace equipped with professional coffee machines. The setup also includes digital tools for monitoring activity and a photovoltaic system that contributes to powering the equipment. The prototype was built at the Stellantis Morocco Technical Center (CETIEV). With its compact size and electric motor, the Fiat Tris can meet the needs of professionals who operate mobile businesses, particularly in urban environments. This transformation allows the manufacturer to highlight the versatility of its three-wheeled vehicle. Rather than developing a specific vehicle for each profession, Stellantis focuses on a technical platform that can accommodate various modifications. In Afrikawa’s case, the Fiat Tris becomes a mobile point of sale. The project is specifically aimed at entrepreneurs wishing to start selling coffee without having to operate a fixed establishment.

While Stellantis provides the vehicle and its technical expertise, Smiresso handles the commercial development of the concept. The Moroccan company will be responsible for training future operators and organizing equipment maintenance.

The project also involves the German manufacturer Melitta, which contributes its expertise in professional coffee machines. The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) is supporting this collaboration, in conjunction with the Moroccan Ministry of Industry and Trade, particularly regarding training and skills transfer. Morocco was selected as the first market to test the model. The partners then plan to expand to other African countries, subject to the results of this initial phase.

For Stellantis Morocco, Afrikawa thus serves as a showcase for the potential applications of the Fiat Tris. However, the manufacturer has not yet specified the concept’s commercialization timeline or price. At this stage, the project remains a prototype designed to demonstrate how a small electric vehicle can be adapted for professional use.
