Inter-Libyan dialogue: “Advanced” on the records of the government of national unity and security arrangements

Rabat- The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Bernardino Leon announced Friday in Rabat, “advanced” on the two major issues currently on the table of international political negotiations Libya, held since Thursday in Skhirate, citing issues of “national unity government” and “security arrangements”.

“We are moving on the two major issues currently on the table, in this case the government of national unity and security arrangements,” said the UN envoy, during a joint press conference at the end of a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Salaheddine Mezouar.

Mr. Leon which reported earlier in the day a “good positive spirit” which have shown the belligerents hoped that advances are taking place in the coming days.

“Inter-Libyan negotiations are an historic event, to the extent that it is the first time that all the representatives of the various warring parties meet to discuss the substance and, after initial contact meeting held recently in Ghadames (southern Libya), “said he again emphasized.

Referring to his meeting with Mr. Mezouar, the UN envoy said he “provided an opportunity for the United Nations to thank, on behalf of the Secretary General, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Morocco”, saying the United a country of dialogue, democracy and openness, played a role “extremely important” in these negotiations.

For its part, Mezouar noted that Morocco since the deteriorating situation in Libya, has spared no effort to contribute to bringing the views and support constructive dialogue in order to preserve the unity and stability of Libya.

“The meeting comes in the wake of the distinguished relations between Morocco and the United Nations, where a true translation of the efforts of both sides, he noted, saying that Morocco has always been on the side of Libyan people and worked to preserve the unity and dialogue in this country.

Expressing the wish to see the warring parties reach a consensual political solution Mezouar stressed that the Arab Maghreb, the Arab world, the Sahel and the Mediterranean have everyone “needs a stable and unified Libya “.

“We believe that through their maturity and patriotism, our Libyan brothers borrow the road of building and consensus within the unit,” concluded the Minister.

Inter-Libyan political negotiations, which started Thursday and resumed Friday take place under the auspices of the United Nations, with the participation of representatives of the warring parties with a view to finding a peaceful solution to the political crisis in Libya.

On Wednesday, the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced the holding in Morocco this round of Libyan political dialogue, after all the invited parties have expressed their agreement to participate in this meeting.

“The parties have formally communicated their decision to take part in this dialogue after close consultation with Bernardino Leon, during his visit to Tobruk and Tripoli March 2, 2015,” had said the MANUL in a statement.
