The National Criminal Investigation Brigade proceeded in dismantling a terrorist cell activation in Meknes, El Hajeb and Al Hoceima, specializing in the recruitment and indoctrination of Moroccan fighters to join the ranks of the organization of “Islamic State” (EI) in Syria and Iraq, said Saturday the Interior Ministry in a statement.
The dismantling of this cell, which is part of the efforts of the security services to deal with the terrorist threat, was conducted on the basis of accurate information provided by the Directorate General of monitoring the country territory, said the source. This cell of eight includes among its members former detained in terrorism cases, said the ministry.
Investigations carried out in this framework have revealed that the brain of the cell, which had links with one of the foreign fighters in the ranks of the terrorist organization, had coordinated several regimentation transactions and sending volunteers by providing financial support to facilitate travel to this hotbed of tension, the ministry said.
According to information available, the Moroccan fighters are subject to intense workouts in Syria and Iraq in the use of weapons, manufacturing explosives and preparing car bombs in preparation for committing subsequent terrorists operations in the Kingdom, the statement said.
