Inter-Libyan negotiations resume in Skhirat, the humanitarian issue backstory

Skhirat – Inter-Libyan negotiations resumed Thursday in Skhirat (near Rabat), where the warring parties raised the importance of the humanitarian aspect which must receive due attention in the resolution of this conflict.

“We blame the UN to not giving due attention to the humanitarian aspect in Libya, as was the case in Yemen and Iraq,” said the official spokesman of the dialogue commission Issa Abdelkayoum.

“We came to Morocco to find a solution to the conflict in Libya and not to give more time to the extremists and terrorists who want to gain ground in our country,” he added.

And emphasized that “all parties must work to ensure a permanent cease-fire in the country, this arrangement does not affect our war against terrorism, which is the subject of consensus.”

In the same vein, a member of the parliamentary committee, Abu Bakr Baira said the meeting provided an opportunity to review issues of general interest, in addition to the attack that targeted Mitiga Airport adding that members of the new government of national unity have not yet been appointed.

These discussions are held under the aegis of the UN Secretary General’s Personal Representative for Libya, Bernardino Leon.

Take part in these discussions the representatives of two rival parliaments, the General National Congress (parliament of Tripoli) and the internationally recognized parliament knows as “parliament of Tobruk.”

On the agenda of the dialogue, the last round was held late March in Skhirat are several issues including security arrangements and training procedures for a national unity government.

The Mission of UN support for Libya (UNSMIL) had recently described the Skhirat negotiations “positive and constructive”.
