The Kingdom of Morocco is a privileged partner of the European Maritime Force “EUROMARFOR” for the security of the Mediterranean region, said Tuesday in Casablanca, the commander of the Spanish Fleet and Commander “EUROMARFOR” Admiral Santiago Bolibar Pineiro.
Speaking at a press conference aboard the Spanish frigate” Santa Maria”, docked at the port of Casablanca, at the beginning of the 2014 multi-year cooperative between EUROMARFOR and Moroccan Royal Navy, Admiral said that this year, which will continue until 13 current is a strong signal of the importance that Spain to its excellent relations with Morocco as it stands out as a natural tool to strengthen ties and promote relations with its near neighbors around the Mediterranean.
This event aims to enhance dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation in maritime operations between the European Maritime Force and the Royal Moroccan Navy, he noted noting that this international event is the second of its kind organized in collaboration with the Royal Moroccan Navy.
EUROMARFOR vessels participating in this exercise are the Spanish frigate “Santa Maria”, the French “Montcalm” and the Portuguese frigate frigate “Vasco da Gama”, he has said, adding that the practical operation between two fleets will be held in international waters off the coast of Casablanca.
The first phase of this exercise, which will continue until June 11, current is composed of interoperability testing and coordination to assess the reactivity of each of the participants.
The last two days of the operation will be the implementation of a tactical exercise between the European Maritime Force and Royal Navy.
EUROMARFOR is a non-permanent force, according to the mission and objectives, sets its organization, the composition of the force and the necessary logistical needs.
Since its creation in 1995 by Spain, France, Portugal and Italy, the European Maritime Force “EUROMARFOR” participated in a large number of international operations and exercises as the operation of peacekeeping UN in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Atlanta operation against piracy in the Indian Ocean.
“EUROMARFOR” arose from the signing of the Petersberg Declaration in June 1992 by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Nations of the European Union and the operational command of the force is appointed for a period of two years, according to a principle of rotation among the National Naval Authorities of four permanent members
