Morocco Elected at UNESCO Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Cultural Expressions Diversity

Paris – Morocco was elected unanimously for the period (2015-2019), member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions 2005 Convention with the same name, at the 5th ordinary session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention which was held from June 10 to 12 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

On this occasion, Ambassador of HM the King to UNESCO, Mrs Zohour Alaoui said in a statement to MAP, that this election is all the more important that it reflects, to an international level, ‘determined and ongoing commitment of the Kingdom to promote and enhance the cultural diversity in all its forms.

Morocco has thus taken action in terms of strengthening civil society capacity in particular thanks to the contribution of National Commissions for UNESCO of Germany and Brazil.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture stated that as part of the preservation of oral heritage, Morocco has launched a major national program to perform the inventory and documentation of the oral heritage hassani covering the Saharan regions of the Kingdom.

During the 5th ordinary session of the Conference of States Parties to this Convention, Morocco was designated as one of 12 beneficiaries of the Programme of Cooperation Agreement (2015 2017) signed between Unesco and the Swedish Agency International Cooperation for Development.

This tuning program aims to strengthen national and global capacities to promote the diversity of cultural expressions.

Morocco had ratified in June 2013, the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions of 2005.

The Convention’s objective is the protection and promotion of diversity of cultural expressions as the main element to be integrated into national policies and international sustainable development.
