Mohamed Assad met his Spanish counterpart in Tangier
Tangier – The Minister of Interior, Mohamed Assad had on Sunday night in Tangier, talks with his Spanish counterpart Jorge Fernandez Diaz, to examine a number of priority issues for both countries, particularly in relation with the areas of illegal immigration, the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, police training and Operation Transit 2015.
Speaking at a press conference held on this occasion, the two Ministers welcomed the efforts of the two countries in the fight against irregular migration flows, reiterating their commitment to ensure that the irregular fight against illegal immigration takes place in the framework of full respect for human rights and dignity.
In this sense, Mr. Diaz hailed the effective action of Morocco for control and monitoring of migratory flows and expressed the support of his country to the new migration and asylum policy, initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI which was materialized in particular by operation of regularization of the situation of foreigners illegally staying in the Kingdom.
Regarding the fight against terrorism, both leaders expressed their commitment to strengthen exchange mechanisms between intelligence services, particularly in the area of the fight against terrorist fighters recruitment networks are to be transported in tension areas.
They thus welcomed the excellent results achieved in the fight against jihadist terrorism through mutual trust and close cooperation between the security services, as evidenced by the recent decommissioning of jihadist networks, which s’ active in both countries.
In terms of the fight against drug trafficking, the two ministers agreed to further strengthen the development of common mechanisms for continuing effective cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, by air , sea and land, across the Strait of Gibraltar.
They, in this regard, highlighted the impetus given by both countries to the fight against drug trafficking by air through the Strait of Gibraltar, highlighting the effectiveness of Telos Plan, which is a model of coordination of border surveillance and control strategies against drug trafficking.
At the same time, the two officials have described as “very satisfactory” cooperation in police training.
Concerning the next Transit Operation-2015, which will begin on June 15 and will end on September 15, the two ministers highlighted the efforts made by the authorities of both countries within the framework of close cooperation on aspects of fluidity, safety and passenger comfort.
They thus announced that the meeting of the Spanish-Moroccan Joint Commission for the transit operation, to assess upcoming Operation Transit 2014, reiterating their commitment to ensure the conditions for success of the 2015.
The flap mixed Centers police cooperation, MM. Assad and Diaz have expressed their satisfaction with the good results achieved by the joint centers of Algeciras and Tangier, launched in May 2012, thanks to the joint work of police officers from both countries, the Civil Guard and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
On this occasion the two leaders welcomed the excellent cooperation that links the security services of the two countries and reaffirmed their determination to continue to work together, emphasizing the particularity of these links, marked by the symbiosis and mutual trust .
This meeting took place in the presence of the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Interior, Drais Cherki, the Spanish ambassador to Morocco, José de Carvajal, the Wali of the region Tangier-Tetouan, Mohamed Yaakoubi and several Senior Moroccan and Spanish officials.
