Bill Clinton: Morocco King presides over a model of coexistence between Jews and Muslims
His Majesty King Mohammed VI, a descendant of the Prophet, presides over a model of religious tolerance countries of otherness and living together, as evidenced harmony that characterizes the relationship between Moroccans of Jewish and Muslim faiths, stressed former President of the United States, Bill Clinton.
“The King of Morocco, a direct descendant of the Prophet ordered the rehabilitation of cemeteries and synagogues in Morocco,” wished to recall the 42nd US president and founder of the Clinton Foundation, in a speech to the Hope Global Forum, held recently in the city of Atlanta (Georgia State, southern United States).
Quoting the Moroccan model, to the applause of the audience, Bill Clinton pointed out that after the terrorist attacks against Charlie Hebdo in Paris, “young people are looking for positive, unifying and important examples.”
The former head of the US executive was referring specifically to the rehabilitation of Jewish cemeteries in Morocco, which was launched in 2010 at the initiative of His Majesty the King and which involved no fewer than 167 sites in 14 regions of the Kingdom an illustration of Morocco that recognizes the different constituent tributaries of national identity.
The inauguration of the synagogue “Slat Alfassiyine” at a ceremony held under the patronage of the Sovereign, in February 2013, also illustrates an inter-religious reality marked by the seal of tolerance and coexistence that constitute the stamp distinctive of the Kingdom for centuries.
