Morocco and Egypt foreign ministers discuss ways to strengthen their relations

imageThe Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, met Friday in Fez with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, and they have discussed ways to strengthen cooperation relations bilateral serving the interests of the two brotherly peoples.

At the meeting, attended by the ambassadors of the two countries and several Moroccan and Egyptian officials, Mezouar said that the interview provides an opportunity to examine several issues of common interest and “work towards achieving aspirations of the two countries’ leaders, King Mohammed VI and President Abdelfattah Sissi, a strong and ambitious partnership. ”

“No one can divide us,” said the minister, adding that any such attempt would be no future in light of the strong relations that have always existed between Rabat and Cairo.

Morocco and Egypt “have a common vision based on beliefs and responsibilities to defend the great causes and overcome all obstacles likely to undermine their common destiny,” he said.

For its part, the Egyptian foreign minister said that Morocco and Egypt are linked by “as old close relations that the common history of the two countries.”

Recalling that Rabat and Cairo maintain ongoing consultations within the Arab League, Mr. Shoukry said that the positions of the two countries “have always been marked with the seal of the match.”

“The strong relations binding the directions of the two countries should give a strong impetus to efforts to consolidate fraternal relations between the peoples of the two countries,” he said, adding that the talks with his Moroccan counterpart offer opportunities to review bilateral relations as a whole and to agree on mechanisms to be put in place to enable the legal and contractual framework for these relations.

Interviews with Mezouar reflect the strong and sincere commitment of both countries to serve the best interests of the two brotherly peoples, said the Egyptian official.

“With the wisdom of the leaders of the two countries and mutual respect, we will continue our joint efforts to strengthen the distinguished relations binding the two peoples,” he said, stressing that these ties will remain strong and able overcome all obstacles whatever challenges and circumstances.
