The opening of the 14th edition of the International Film Festival of Marrakech was marked by a glowing tribute to the living legend of the Egyptian and Arab cinema Adel Imam.
After an initial warm welcome at the traditional red carpet before the official opening ceremony of this major event film, The leader of Arab cinema, was treated to a standing ovation from its first appearance on stage at the Convention Centre to receive the Star of the Festival in homage to its rich artistic career of more than 100 films.
the Arab comedy icon said he is “excited and proud” by this tribute, thanking the organizers of this “great” Mass of international cinema. On his usual humorous tone, he addressed the Festival, before expressing his joy at being in Morocco where he has many friends.
He took the opportunity to reaffirm his love to the Kingdom for hosting this major event. As part of this tribute, in the presence of the actor himself, the movie “Alzheimer”, where Imam portrays the lead role, was screened right after the ceremony on giant screens at the legendary Plaza Jemaa El Fna.
The Star Festival was given to the Egyptian actor by the former Minister of Culture, Touria Jabrane which highlighted the rich and diverse journey of the great Imam. It welcomed the commitment of a large optimistic artist who believes in life, love, freedom and hope.
